U.S. District Court holds its first session in Boston.

[1789] Established under the Articles of Confederation, the federal court meets initially at the Bunch of Grapes Tavern. It moves to Suffolk County Court House in 1812, then to the former Masonic Temple at 140 Tremont Street in 1859 (1857).
